What I am about to say is controversial, and I know that. I want to preempt this with the following statement: I respect everyone's parenting choices. I may not agree with them, but you need to do what is right for your family. Please read what I am about to say as a comment on propaganda not on any individual's parenting choices. The phrase "Fed is Best" is bullshit. Flat out bullshit. It is a propagandized movement started by the formula companies and perpetuated by families that choose to formula feed for whatever reason. I want to say this very clearly THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH FORMULA FEEDING. However, those parents who choose to formula feed need to accept that is their choice and that others make different choices.
Here is the truth. Breast milk is best for baby in almost every single instance. Breast milk dynamically changes based on the need of the baby. When a baby needs more hydration, breast milk will reduce in fat content and increase in water content - formula won't. When a baby is exposed and needs an immune response, breast milk will increase antibodies to promote passive resistance - formula doesn't. As a child ages, breast milk will change in caloric density to meet the child's needs without increasing intake volume - formula doesn't. Breast milk stimulates the release of oxytocin (the love hormone) in both mother and baby promoting bonding and attachment - formula doesn't. Breast milk changes flavor based on what the mother eats, promoting a broader palate - formula doesn't. To those people who say "Fed is Best," I say you're a fucking idiot. Fed is the bare minimum. If you aren't feeding your baby, you're neglecting it. Breast is best because it is dynamic, promotes immunity and bonding, and sets the stage for diverse food interests later in life. Breast is best - PERIOD. Happy Parenting,
